Should a Person be Obligated to take a Medical Checkup Before Marriage

Should a Person be Obligated to take a Medical Checkup Before Marriage?

Answered by Shaykh Mashhoor Hasan Salmaan
Question (nos. 233): Should a person be obliged to take a medical checkup before marriage?

Life was simple and honesty was the premise in the first generation. It was never their policy to hide and not disclose faults. This is why when the Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) asked to marry Umm Salamah, she said to the Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم), "Yaa Rasullullaah I am a woman prone to jealousy, I have dependents (children), I am old, and I cannot give birth." Thus, she clearly stated her faults. Hence the Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said to her, "As for me, I am older than you. As for your jealousy, I will make du'aa to Allaah azza wa jal that He rids you of it, and as for the children, then (their care) is upon Allaah and His Messenger."’

About Holding on to the Sunnah... Print E-mail
That which seperates the people of truth and the people of falsehood is the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallam). A jewel-filled section discussing topics such as 'The Saved Sect', Sticking to the Correct Manhaj In Times of Fitnah and 'Lessons In Manhaj'.

Al Haakim said: I heard ar-Rabee' [saying]: I heard ash-Shaafi'ee, and indeed he was narrating a hadeeth. So a man said to him: Will you implement this o Abaa Abdullaah? So he said: If I narrate an authentic hadeeth from the Messenger of Allaah (Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallam) and I don't implement it, then you can testify that my intellect has left! [Reported by Ibn Abee Haatim in Aadaabush Shaafi'ee Wa Munaaqibuhu (p. 93), and by Imaam adh-Dhahabee in Mukhtasir Al Uloow' (no. 197) It's chain of narration is authentic. It was authenticated by Shaykh al-Albaanee in Sifatus Salaah (fifth edition) (p. 33)]

A man came to Imaam Maalik Ibn Anas (radiyallaahu 'anhu) and said: From where should I put on the ihraam? So he said: From the place where the Messenger of Allaah (Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallam) stopped and put on ihraam. So the man said: So what if I put on ihraam from farther than that? So Maalik said: I do not advise that. So he said: What do you dislike about that? He said: I dislike the Fitnah upon you. He said: And what is the Fitnah in increasing the good?! So he said: Verily Allaah the Exalted says, "So let those who oppose his (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) command beware that a Fitnah may strike them, or a painful punishment." And which Fitnah is greater than you specifying an action with virtue which was not specified by the Messenger of Allaah (Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallam)? [Related Abu Shaamah in his book Baa'ith 'alaa Inkaarul Bid'ah Wal Hawaadith (p. 14). Quoted by Abee Bakr Al Khallaal.]

About Tawheed

Abdullah Ibn Mas'ood said: Whoever wishes to see the advice of Muhammad (Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallam) which has his seal upon it, then let him read the Statement of Allaah the Exalted: "Say: Come! Read what your Lord has forbidden for you: that you should not associate with Him anything."[To His Statement:] "And verily this is My Straight Path." [Sooratul An'aam 151-153] [Tirmidthee (no. 3072) and he said: good but strange. Muhammad Afeefee confirmed it in his checking of Kitaabut- Tawheed of Shaykhul Islaam Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhaab.]

Shaykh Abdur Rahmaan Ibn Hasan Aal Ash-Shaykh said: This narration was narrated by Tirmidthee who declared it good, and Ibn Mundthir, and Ibn Abee Haatim, and at-Tabaraanee, and their like. Some of them said: It's meaning is: Whoever wishes to see the advice which is as if it was written and sealed, and then it was not modified and it was not changed, then let him read: "Say: Come! - to the end of the aayah. It is like the book, which was written, then sealed, then it was not added to, and it did not have anything deleted from it. For verily the Messenger of Allaah (Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallam) did not advise except with the Book of Allaah, as he said in that which is related by Muslim: And verily I have left with you that which if you cling firmly to it, you shall not be misguided: the Book of Allaah… And indeed it is reported from 'Ubaadah Ibnus Saamit that the Messenger of Allaah (Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallam) said: Which one of you wants to buy from me these three aayaat? Then he read His Statement: Say: Come! Recite what your Lord has forbidden for you… until he was exhausted from these three ayahs. Then he said: And whoever completes these, then his reward is with Allaah, and whoever has something incomplete from this, then Allaah knows about it in this world, and he will be punished. And whoever is after him until the Hereafter, his affair is with Allaah. If He wishes, He will take him, and if He wishes, He will forgive him. It is related by Ibn Abee Haatim, and authenticated by al-Haakim, and Muhammad Ibn Nasr in Al-I'itsaam. I say: because the Prophet (Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallam) did not advise his Ummah except with what Allaah the Exalted advised them, upon his tongue, and in the Book which He revealed. "An Explanation for everything, and a Guidance, and a Mercy, and a Glad Tiding for the Muslims." [Sooratun-Nahl: 89] And these ayahs are the advice of Allaah the Exalted and His Messenger (Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallam). [Fathul Majeed (1/23)]

The Wisdom Behind the Arrangement of the Pillars of Eemaan

A look into the arrangement of the Pillars of Eemaan and the hikmah, wisdom, that exist within their ordering.
Then comes the mention of belief in the Angels and Messengers because they are the mediators between Allaah and His creation regarding the conveyance of His messages. Thus, the Angels descend with the revelation (from Allaah) and bring it to the Messengers and the Messengers convey it to the people.

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Merciful...

Thereis wisdom behind - and Allaah knows best- the arrangement of the pillars of Eemaan in the verses of the Qur’aan and the ahaadeeth, although the waaw (و) doesn't exactly necessitate arrangement:

The pillars of Eemaanhave begun with belief in Allaah because it is absolutely the foundation and (all) the other pillars aside from it come in succession to it.
